Jesus Is the Question: The 307 Questions Jesus Asked and the 3 He Answered by Martin B. Copenhaver

Contrary to some common assumptions, Jesus is not the ultimate Answer Man, but more like the Great Questioner. In the Gospels Jesus asks many more questions than he answers. To be precise, Jesus asks 307 questions. He is asked 183 of which he only answers 3. Asking questions was central to Jesus life and teachings. In fact, for every question he answers directly he asks--literally--a hundred. Jesus is the Question considers the questions Jesus asks--what they tell us about Jesus and, more important, what our responses might say about what it means to follow Him. Through Jesus questions, he modeled the struggle, the wondering, the thinking it through that helps us draw closer to God and better understand, not just the answer, but ourselves, our process and ultimately why questions are among Jesus most profound gifts for a life of faith. A game-changer of a book.

"Seven Questions Jesus Asked"

10 Tough Questions Jesus Asks! What Are Your Answers?

Years ago I became fascinated with the questions of Jesus. It occurred to me that if Jesus was asking a question, it must be an important one. In fact, depending on our response, they could be life-changing questions. I realize that in the culture in which Jesus lived, asking questions was a method of learning, but Jesus always knew the answers. He didn't need to ask them. He IS the answer. What does He need to know?

Whether in a public gathering, a confrontation with his enemies, or a private conversation with his closest friends, Jesus consistently used questions to produce change and growth. In the eighth chapter of the Book of Mark, he used eight types of questions. Rather than merely answering a question and thereby stunting the question's teaching potential , Jesus would often answer a participant's question with a question of his own. In Mark 8 , when his followers asked Jesus how he planned to feed a crowd of 4, people, he responded with a question: "How many loaves do you have? It takes confidence and wisdom to ask involving questions. Asking a question as simple as "What do the rest of you think?

T he best leaders know how to ask the right questions. By this metric, Jesus embodies great leadership. Taking all four Gospels into account, Jesus asks well over questions, many of which cut straight to the heart of the matter at hand. One of the bigger mistakes people make in reading Scripture is that they read it as a spectator. For them Scripture is a collection of stories and events that took place thousands of years ago. True enough, we are reading historical accounts. But, truth be told these ancient stories are our stories.

No doubt finding it fascinating as a collection of people, stories, miracles and events. In reading a red-letter edition of the Bible you will find that Jesus asked over questions during His earthly ministry. While I found the number of questions Jesus asked interesting. I found why He asked them. God asked questions. As I was studying this a few days ago, my fine wife Bev and I agreed to reduce the number of questions to seven.
