Salmon was the father of Boaz and is of genealogical significance in being both an ancestor of David and Jesus Christ. Asides from being mentioned in genealogical records of Ruth , First Chronicles , Matthew and Luke , nothing is known about him from Scripture , other than inferences. Salmon was the son of Nahshon and grandson of Amminadab . Aaron was Salmon's uncle, by marriage to his Aunt Elisheba . He was a member of Tribe of Judah and was in the line of Perez. His father, Nahshon was the Chieftain of the Tribe of Judah.

When they were compiled it was probably thought of as a blot rather than a glory; but the fact may have been preserved in the traditions of the house of David. It has been conjectured that Salmon may have been one of the two unnamed spies whose lives were saved by Rahab, when he was doing the work which Caleb had done before him.
Thus, according to the biblical genealogies, Salmon is the patrilineal great-great-grandfather of David. Salmon is mentioned in 1 Chronicles , Ruth ,21 , Matthew and Luke Nahshon was one of the Israelite leaders present with Moses  during the exodus from Egypt who undertook a " census of all the congregation of the children of Israel"  and therefore Salmon would probably have been a contemporary of Joshua and part of the generation of Israelites who entered the promised land. Rahab's marriage to Salmon is not mentioned in the account of her hiding Joshua's messengers sent out to spy out Jericho ,  although the narrative regarding her role concludes that "she dwells in Israel to this day".
