This book is a collection of 25 stories ,each showcasing the different facets of human nature as experienced by Sudha Murthy in her interactions with people as chairperson of the Infosys foundation and her family and friends .The most unforgettable one for me was the story on Mothers Love .

Some books will make us choose disparate decisions and change the way we think or even confabulate. Please forgive me, if You had thought of non-fictions which go lengths about preaching good habits, inculcating thoughts and whatever. Sudha Murthy needs no introduction. She is a well established social worker, philanthropist and the Chairperson of the eminent Infosys Foundation and not to forgot a great writer who has carved her own niche of fiction and non fiction works. I had already read some of her works, thanks to my twin sibling. Her House of Cards was the first book that I read and was completely enticed by the way she portrayed the emotions and Indianess in her book.

The book gets its name from the first story — The Old Man and his God. In this story Smt Sudha meets an old man who is blind and who lives with his old wife as caretaker of a Shiva Temple in a hamlet in Thanjavur,TamilNadu. Their wants and needs are minimum and a sense of contentment pervades their life. One should read the story of this simple couple who live a real life in this world full of un-realness. When I say India I also mean Indians and there ways too.

  1. No other form of art can capture the range and diversity of human experience the way a poem can.
