Fidel Castro: Rebel-Liberator or Dictator? by Jules Duboisa period piece, published in March 1959, by a liberal American journalist sympathetic to Castro. the author covered the Cuban Revolution (triumphant Jan 1, 59) for American newspapers. the book is unfortunately overflowing with speeches by Castro and others, which means a lot of flowery political language throughout. facts and historical analysis of military campaigns and revolutionary activities are fewer, but the book gives a pretty insightful account of the final days of Batista. the book evokes grimaces by proclaiming that Castro is most definitely a liberator and would never become a dictator. even more grimaces come from the authors slavish support for the US government and its good intentions.
