A Place of Quiet Rest: Finding Intimacy With God Through a Daily Devotional Life by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

This book was inspiring and beautiful yet very practical as well, and I very much enjoyed it.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss explains the beauty of the relationship we are called to have with God and about how it is a privilege and not a duty. She begins with the why, not the how, which I appreciated, and the picture she created of wonderful intimacy with God made me want to get to the rest of the book to learn how to achieve that intimacy. It was motivational and inspiring.

In the second half of the book, she takes those inspiring words and provides a wealth of tools to be able to put them into practice. She discusses common problems to having a devotional time, how to get started, how to read the Bible, how to study the Bible and get the most out of it, how to give praise to God, and how to have a thriving prayer time. There are so many suggestions and options that everyone will be able to find something or some variation of her ideas that works for them.

The last section returns to the inspirational tone and leaves you with a last beautiful picture of the fruit regular devotions will bear in your life. After each chapter, there is a personal testimony from a woman of strong faith, as well as reflection questions that you can use to start thinking about how to apply what the book says to your own life.

I had been in a bit of a rut with my devotions and picked up this book in desperation hoping for some help. It definitely delivered, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interesting in starting a regular devotional time or in rescuing their devotional time!
