Set Up and Use Kindle FreeTime on Kindle Fire (2nd Generation) Devices
On paper, kids and tablets are a good fit. From their portability and their ability to entertain young ones through movies, games and the Interwebs , slates look like the perfect companion for children. Younger children can also be rough on their devices, with tablets not precisely designed to withstand a ton of physical abuse. They can be big on color and sugar but sparse in substance. The exteriors add a splash of color as well as extra grip for little hands. Its main job, however, is to withstand drops and all sorts of abuse.
Before your child can use Kindle FreeTime , you need to create a parental controls password and create a profile for your child. Note: Kindle FreeTime automatically blocks access to the Silk Browser and the Kindle Store, and disables location-based services, in-app purchases, and social features. You must enter your parental controls password to access Kindle FreeTime settings, exit Kindle FreeTime , or enable or disable wireless connectivity. Note: You can create up to four child profiles in Kindle FreeTime. After setting up Kindle FreeTime , you can add content you've purchased to your child's profile, subscribe to Kindle FreeTime Unlimited to receive access to thousands of content titles for a monthly fee, and set up daily educational goals and time limits. A profile must have content to finish setting up Kindle FreeTime. Once your child's profile is ready for them to use, tap their profile icon to enter their profile.
Choosing a tablet for kids was a long process for me and in the end I bought both the leappad and the kids kindle fire to compare them. They both have setup hurdles for the not so tech savvy parent and as a person who considers herself to be tech savvy I had to google a lot of my head scratching moments when trying to setup my new tablets. My kids now each have a kids kindle fire tablet as it seemed the best choice as they were outgrowing the leappad and its constricting environment. After the black friday deals I shared about the tablet and a lot of my readers bought their kids tablets for Christmas I decided that a setup guide was timely. I talk about all the things I am about to write down here in the video, but sometimes you just need a quick glance to solve a little problem.

Handing your child a teddy bear with an embedded camera is a bad idea. But a device with carefully curated content, used under direct parental supervision?

Amazon Freetime is the app in which your kids will spend their time — it provides an age-appropriate, curated experience of books, videos, and app for your child. Kids love tablets. They love the interactive games, they love having access to video to watch and they love all the apps. The big problem is that most adults have a tablet setup for themselves, meaning you're only a few clicks away from content or buying temptations that you don't want in the hands of your child. One of the best tablets for kids is the Amazon Fire, for a number of reasons. Firstly, the price, secondly, Amazon has put a lot of effort into providing parents with controls to ensure that the Fire is a safe place for kids.
