Anna Fekete Series by Kati Hiekkapelto
By David Swatling. Add to that an environmental and human rights activist. So it should be no shock that her books include subversive and provocative storylines, as they take on heated topical social issues with prose that is both edgy and elegant. Little wonder she has fast become a rising star on the Nordic Noir literary horizon. Third time lucky? The winner will be announced on May 20 at CrimeFest in Bristol.
Scandinavian crime fiction carries on booming, but the Finns are settled there just on the edge. Kati Hiekkapelto and Antti Tuomainen are changing all of that. We decided to ask her more about her books…. Can you tell us about The Defenceless in a nutshell? The Defenceless is a story of undocumented migration, drugs and gangs. But the most important aspect for me as a crime writer is a good murder story! They are independent stories.

I am Kati Hiekkapelto, an author from Finland. I also write columns for a couple newspapers, lyrics for my punk band and some of my short stories have been published in a Finnish literary magazine. I have a stage play for the theatre in progress, too. I could probably write any type of fiction at the literary end of the scale , I suppose. The thing for me is to write.
