Although often used in pop culture as a way to introduce new information see 'In Fiction' , sleep is considered an important period for memory consolidation. Although learning new information during sleep has not been considered possible, at least to the extent it is used in fiction, the term hypnopedia has also been used to refer to the technique of playing sounds or odors during sleep in order to boost memory for previously learned information. Likewise, cued material is also better preserved than material that is not cued during sleep. In , Alois Benjamin Saliger invented the Psycho-Phone for sleep learning, stating that "It has been proven that natural sleep is identical with hypnotic sleep and that during natural sleep the unconscious mind is most receptive to suggestions. Since the electroencephalography studies by Charles W. Simon and William H. Emmons in , learning by sleep has not been taken seriously.

I was recommended to read this book, by my cousin, as I enjoy dystopian novels. Brave New World revolves around the idea of totalitarianism and is set in a futuristic world where a combination of science and pleasure form a rather feudalistic society. This idea of totalitarianism is achieved through test tube babies, and hypnotism, resulting in a pre-ordained caste system consisting of intelligent humans suited to the highest positions and conversely, serf-like beings genetically programmed to carry out menial works. In this world of Alphas, Betas, Gammas, Deltas and the unfortunate Epsilons, exists drug-induced happiness, caused by what is known as soma. Here, "everyone belongs to everyone else" emphasising the system of forced promiscuity, brainwashed into the people from the moment of birth.

Brave New World is a television movie loosely based on Aldous Huxley 's novel of the same name.

In the novel, the World State is a unified government which administers the entire planet, with a few isolated exceptions. Very little is revealed of the Nine Years' War, but it can be inferred that the conflict broke out in Europe, affected most of the planet, and caused massive physical damage. It is repeatedly stated that chemical and biological weapons were heavily used during the war, particularly in mass air-raids against cities, similar to the portrayal of World War III. Following the war, which seems to have petered out rather than been ended by a decisive victory, the global economy collapsed and created an unprecedented worldwide economic crisis. To deal with the two catastrophes of the Nine Years' War and the Great Economic Collapse, the new world leaders tried to forcibly impose their new ideologies on Earth's populations.
