The Christmas Train by David Baldacci

Disillusioned journalist Tom Langdon must get from Washington D.C. to L.A in time for Christmas. Forced to travel by train, he begins a journey of rude awakenings, thrilling adventures and holiday magic. He has no idea that the locomotives pulling him across America will actually take him into the rugged terrain of his own heart, as he rediscovers peoples essential goodness and someone very special he believed he had lost.

The Christmas Train is filled with memorable characters who have packed their bags with as much wisdom as mischief ... and shows how we do get second chances to fulfill our deepest hopes and dreams, especially during this season of miracles.

Hero Girl is a young, African-American girl who appears to be between eight to ten years old with black hair that is styled in two looped braided pigtails. She seems unsure of herself at first, but gains confidence towards the end of the film and becomes a leader. Hero Girl is shown to know the true meaning of Christmas, for she could hear Santa's bells at the end of the movie. Hero Girl first appears when Know-It-All asks Hero Boy about the type of train they are on, responding to the question by saying it is a magic train going to the North Pole. She also watches the Christmas display in front of Herpolsheimer's with the other children and expresses how beautiful she thinks it is. Later, when Hero Boy gets in trouble for pulling the emergency brake , Hero Girl stands up for him and explains that he was just trying to help Billy get on the train, so the Conductor lets him off with a reminder of the train's tight schedule.

In fact, appearing in a production of that timeless classic was how I spent my holiday season last year. Surrounded by community members who looked forward to performing in the show or being an audience member, I began to understand why the play is a staple in the American theatre and why it continues to be performed annually. But for every well-worn tradition, there is the effort to add a new one. And you might say that Santa brought me a very different theatrical holiday experience to unwrap this year. Why not?

Hero Boy : At one time most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. And though I've grown old, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe. Conductor : One thing about trains - it doesn't matter where they're going. What matters is deciding to get on. Conductor : Sometimes seeing is believing.

Know-It-All is one of the children that rode on the Polar Express. He is talkative and he seems smart at first, but it is soon apparent that he only wants to be smart and needs the ability to learn more. Hero Boy first meets Know-It-All on the train right after he takes a seat.

View Quote. I wanna make sure 'm getting everything on my list. All I found was one present. And all it had was a bunch of stupid underwear. Billy : Christmas just doesn't work out for me. Never has. Elf General : A number-seven bow?
