Ip Man, also known as Yip Man, was a Chinese martial artist of Canton ancestry, and a master teacher of Wing Chun Kung Fu. He had several students who later became martial arts masters in their own right. His most famous student was Bruce Lee. Due to Chan's age, he was only able to train Ip for three years before.

Yip Man was born in China and was considered a most esteemed Wing Chun teacher who had taught numerous students who later went on to become authorities in their own right. Chan was reaching the end of his life and professional career when Yip Man started learning Wing Chun — Chan was seventy at the time. Yip continued training for another six or so years before he had to move to Hong Kong with one of his relatives, Leung Fut-ting.
