A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay

The lives of the Barretts, a normal suburban New England family, are torn apart when fourteen-year-old Marjorie begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia.

To her parents despair, the doctors are unable to stop Marjories descent into madness. As their stable home devolves into a house of horrors, they reluctantly turn to a local Catholic priest for help. Father Wanderly suggests an exorcism; he believes the vulnerable teenager is the victim of demonic possession. He also contacts a production company that is eager to document the Barretts plight. With John, Marjories father, out of work for more than a year and the medical bills looming, the family agrees to be filmed, and soon find themselves the unwitting stars of The Possession, a hit reality television show. When events in the Barrett household explode in tragedy, the show and the shocking incidents it captures become the stuff of urban legend.

Fifteen years later, a bestselling writer interviews Marjories younger sister, Merry. As she recalls those long ago events that took place when she was just eight years old, long-buried secrets and painful memories that clash with what was broadcast on television begin to surface--and a mind-bending tale of psychological horror is unleashed, raising vexing questions about memory and reality, science and religion, and the very nature of evil.

Why those TV ghost-hunting shows are transparently fake

On a fuzzy green screen, you see a T-shirted man pointing a small electronic recorder toward a murky corner. Amico has the experience to back up his claim. Amico also leads tours for Haunted Historians, which attracts fans of the many ghost-hunting TV shows. Those fans expect to see evidence of the afterlife, from an empty rocking chair moving by itself to shadowy apparitions coalescing in corners. The recipe is the same.

Well as most of you have heard already we received a call from the production company that the new executives on SyFy will not be renewing Ghost Mine for a 3rd season. Sorry it has taken so long to get an answer out of them but they finally decided yesterday evening not to re-new the show. I will try and keep my page open for awhile and up date you all on what Mama Smurf and I are up to. It has been great knowing all of you and all the support you have given us. I guess we will see what is down the road for us. Love Ya All. You know where to find me and all the mentioned above.

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff — we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.
