Kingdom of Priests: A History of Old Testament Israel by Eugene H. MerrillDr. Merrills study on the history of the nation of Israel is invaluable to the student of the Old Testament. The writer deals with a variety of liberal views of the history of the Old Testament and does an excellent job showing their flaws and weaknesses. He argues admirably for the conservative dating of the Exodus and the historicity of the historical books of the Old Testament. At times, the writer may give too much time in dealing with critical views, but the exercise is certainly necessary for the student of the Bible. Overall, this look at the history of the people of Israel is one of the best conservative works on the topic.

In February, a terrible beheading of twenty-one Egyptian Christians took place. Consequently, Christians often find themselves in a most difficult position. We are called to love our neighbors— even our neighbors who might better be described as our enemies Matt. And we are not to return evil for evil Rom. While most believers do not face the imminent threat of death, testifying to Christ is often far from easy. As sons and daughters of the One who is both the eternal King and High Priest, we have assurance that we will never be forgotten or abandoned.
