Prof Dr Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud mengikuti pendidikan awal di Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (SRJK) Inggeris Tanah Merah dan Sekolah Menengah (SM) Dato Mahmud Paduka Raja Tanah Merah, sebelum meneruskan pengajian ke Maktab Sultan Ismail, Kota Bharu serta menyambung pendidikan ke Northern Illinois University dalam Sarjana Muda Kaji Hayat dan Sarjana Kurikulum & Pengajaran dan menyempurnakannya dengan Ijazah Kedoktoran Falsafah (Pemikiran Pendidikan Islam) di University of Chicago.

Beliau berpengalaman sebagai Presiden Kebangsaan Kumpulan Kajian Islam Pelajar Malaysia (MISG) AS dan Kanada dan Presiden Kebangsaan Muslim Students Association of US and Canada.

Wan Mohd Nor memulakan tapak akademiknya sebagai Tutor Fakulti Pengajian Islam di Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) dan Penolong Pengarah di Bahagian Perancangan & Penyelidikan Pendidikan (ERPD) di Kementerian Pendidikan, sebelum berpindah ke International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) untuk bersama-sama Prof Dr Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas membina institusi pemikiran dan peradaban Islam itu sebagai Timbalan Pengarahnya bermula 1988 hingga 2002. Pada 2006 pula, beliau dilantik sebagai Felo Utama, Institut Alam dan Tamadun Melayu (ATMA) UKM sebelum menyumbangkan bakti kesarjanaan di Pusat Kajian Tinggi Islam, Sains dan Peradaban (CASIS) Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Karya-karya beliau telah diterjemah ke bahasa Melayu, Indonesia, Turki, Jepun, Parsi, Rusia, Bosnia, Arab dan Macedonia. Beliau turut diundang ke pelbagai seminar dan ceramah di AS, UK, Rusia, Iran, Turki, Afrika Selatan, Pakistan, Sudan, Oman, Arab Saudi, Mesir, Jepun, Indonesia, Bosnia dan Singapura.

Sumbangan akademik beliau turut disalurkan sebagai Advisory Council for the Center for Strategic Middle Eastern Studies (CSMES), Zirve University, Gaziantep, Turki; mantan Editor Perunding Jurnal ISTAC, as-Shajarah; ahli Majlis Penasihat Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research, Hawaii; mantan Penasihat Antarabangsa, Program Sarjana Pengajian Islam, University of Melbourne, Australia; Editor Perunding AFKAR di Akademi Islam, Universiti Malaya (UM); International Journal of Pesantren Studies di Jakarta; Tsaqafah: Journal for Islamic Sciences and Culture, juga di Jakarta dan Tafhim, iaitu jurnal Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (IKIM).
