(Paper-2) 20th Century Indian Writing
Most of these stories share a common purpose and exhibit a similar flow of ideas. The sense of the teller and the tale comes through quite strongly and the stance of the author is of the omniscient narrator. The element of chance plays an important role, both in the development of the plot as well as in the resolution of events towards the end. Because the resolution of the stories depends to a large extent on an idealistic premise, there seems to be a corresponding lack of the element of believable probability, which in turn takes the story away from being entirely realistic in nature. Jumman Sheikh and Algu Chaudhary show a deep bond of friendship, which goes back to their childhood days. The two belonging to different faiths shared nothing, not even food or religion.
Those who have been avid followers of his works would be forced to debate over his works, with this startling fact. Now If one asks who changed the name, the answer would be a known name among those who promoted Hindi literature, Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi. Like any other budding writer Premchand too was a person who was fighting it out to make it big in the Literature world. He gave the story for being published in a magazine called the Saraswati Patrika. Dwivedi who was then the editor of the magazine, changed the title to Panch Parmeshwar from Panch Bhagwan. The story was then published which is often used by the students for their research work.
